Judy Lawson

Judy Lawson passed away April 15, 2023, in Berea, Ohio at 68 years young. Judy was born on September 6, 1954, in Casa Grande, Arizona to Roy and Leeoda Lawson. She grew up at the White House Ranch in Benson, Arizona where her father was the ranch foreman for many years. Judy is survived by her husband John Mela, son Andy Walton, daughter in law, Alexis Walton and beloved grandsons Waylen and Austin Walton; her sisters Sandra Hitchcock, Joyce Martin, Carrie Fletcher and brother Jerry Lawson as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews all of whom Judy treasured very much. Judy is preceded in death by her parents Roy and Leeado Lawson, with whom she will be laid to rest alongside, her sister Royce Suchi, and brother Sonny Lawson. Judy graduated from Benson High School in 1971, and married Roger Walton; soon after she gave birth to her only son, Andy on Christmas Day in 1973. Judy and her younger sister Carrie loved living on the ranch, they enjoyed riding horses, tagging along with their dad when he’d allow it and riding dirt bikes when their older sister Joyce and her family would come home to visit from California. The best part was when all seven siblings and their families would come home. It was nothing to fill the house with thirty or more people. Judy had a passion for riding and showing horses; especially cutting horses. She was a member of the Arizona Cutting Horse Association for many years. In recent years Judy moved to Ohio to be closer to her son Andy and his growing family. In May of 2022 Judy became a grandma to little Waylen; he stole her heart the moment she met him. She was the most doting wonderful grandma or “Amma” a little boy could hope for. She will be dearly missed. Today we come together to celebrate Judy and reminisce about all the wonderful ways she touched each of our lives. We’re all better for having the honor of knowing her or having the privilege of calling her family. ❤️ Memorial services will be at 2:30 pm on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Westlawn Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Cemetery.
