Don C. Owen Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Don was born on July 4th, 1944, to Walter C. and Elvira P. Owen. He was the third of three children and is survived by his wife, Sharon, sons Scott (wife Brandy) and Dean (wife Jessica), daughter Carey (husband Jason), eight grandchildren and one great grandchild, and his two siblings, Claire D. Owen, and Elaine Owen Martin. Don passed from this life to eternal life on the night of July 4th, 2022, at the age of 78. Don served as an aircraft mechanic the US Air Force from 1966 to 1970, and in the Air National Guard in Tucson from 1971 until his retirement on October 1, 1988. During this time Don went to Pima college at night to learn electronics. From this, he was reassigned to the avionics shop at the Air National Guard. Don was a thinker and a designer, never content with the status quo. His accomplishments were notable. He designed and built two homes for us, invented or modified tools to use, and kept our old cars and equipment running. As his mental and physical health began to fail, Don spent his free time in his lapidary and rock hounding hobby. We have many fond memories of Don. He was wonderful husband and good father to his children. I met Don Owen at a farm bureau meeting at the Willcox Community Center on a cold, snowy January night. I was 10 years old, and he was 12. That night was a potluck meeting with families involved in the farming and livestock industry. I thought he was brat because he was running around with other boys outside and enjoying the rare snowfall. The snow was enough to make snowballs, which resulted in a snowball fight. As the door to the community center opened, Don through a snowball that missed the intended target, and instead it flew into the building and hit me. I was incensed! It wasn’t until Don’s senior year in high school that he decided to ask me for a date. The rest is history. We were married on September 8th, 1964, at the Willcox Church of Christ. Don was baptized before we married and has served the Lord since that time. While Don was in the Air Force, he experienced a head injury. He was testing a jet engine on a test stand and was interrupted by another airman causing him to turn his head. His head set straps caught on the test stand and the intense noise and vibration threw him to the floor minus the headset. The result was the loss of his hearing and health. Don loved his family so much, and we loved him. He will always be in our hearts, but we know his suffering is done. Well done, good and faithful husband. Sharon . A Celebration of Life will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2022, at the J-6 Church of Christ. Military Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 25, 2022, at the Southern Arizona Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Sierra Vista. Please be at the staging area at 9:30 a.m.
