Nancy Marlene Iverson

Nancy Marlene Wylie Iverson was born August 5, 1933, and finished her earthly journey peacefully on January 26, 2024. She was born to Matt and Fannie (Haggard) Wylie on the family farm near Elgin, Nebraska where she joined her sister, Mary Maxine and brother, William Matt. Nancy enjoyed a blessed and happy childhood, especially considering that scarlet fever hit the community in 1934. Three newborns contracted it and Nancy was the only one to survive. She went to grade school only ½ mile from home and attended and graduated from Elgin High School where she was active in all aspects of high school including music and cheerleading. She married Larry Iverson on May 29, 1950. They shared four children: Cinthia Louise; Ann; Ronald Mark; Lester Matt. In the early 50’s they moved around a lot due to Larry’s military duty and construction career. They lived in every state west of the Mississippi including Alaska. In the 60’s and 70’s they resided mainly in Nebraska, settling in North Platte in 1964. During that time Nancy worked numerous jobs and in 1968 she graduated from MidPlains Vocation College with a computer science degree. In 1980, after spending time with her sister’s family in Sierra Vista, they settled in Benson and purchased the Sahara Motel. They later purchased and sold, Turquoise Hill Country Club. During that time Nancy also worked for Safeway. In 1997, Larry passed away and she turned the Sahara Motel into a thriving business. Over the years many visitors to southern Arizona have stayed at the Sahara including long term, winter visitors and overnighters. Nancy was born a Methodist and always believed she would die a Methodist, unfortunately that didn’t happen. With the closing of the Methodist Church in Benson of which she was an active charter member filling many roles, she became part of the family of New Life Family Worship Center in Pomerene. Over the years she was an active member of the VFW auxiliary, Business and Professional Women – holding a variety of offices and proudly assisted with Operation Christmas Child, Chamber of Commerce and Benson Clean and Beautiful. Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Larry, infant daughter Ann, son Ron, her parents Senators Matt and Fannie Wylie, sister and her husband Maxine and Col. Harold Mueller; brother Senator William Wylie; in-laws Lester and Margaret Iverson; sister and brother in-law Joyce and Robert Schmitt and nephew William. She is survived by her children – Cindy Beeman (Elmer Simpson); Les (Colleen). grandchildren: Kristie; Tara (Paul); Tucker; Lindsey (Trevor); Jacob (Jessica); Payton (Melissa); Hallie; TJ; Jacob (Terah). great-grandchildren: Macy; Veranica; Edward; Jordy; Ivy; Eva; Penelope; Jennings; Myril; and Ansleigh. sister-in-law Nancy Wylie; nieces, nephews and cousins. Nancy has donated her body through Science Cares in the hopes that she can assist someone else to have a more fulfilled life – “God gives you time to do the projects that are fruitful and helpful to others. We just have to listen and follow his direction”. She touched so many lives over the years – we will miss her smile, her positive thoughts, her candor and most of all her love and kindness. Her celebration of life will be held August 10, 2024, at 1:00 pm at New Life Family Worship Center in Pomerene Arizona. She has two great-grandchildren who have serious medical issues and has requested donation be made to funds supporting those needs.
