Maria Eva Ramirez

We Love You So Much, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother, Sister, Cousin and Aunt. Maria Eva Ramirez Martinez was born on May 21st of 1928. She lived in Douglas Arizona at the time of her death on November 21st, 2025, at 97 years old. Throughout the years Maria Eva has been surrounded by her Loving Children, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren. In the past few months all were aiding in providing a comfortable and peaceful transition through prayer in her home, before going on to meet our Lord. Westlawn Funeral Home in Willcox Arizona will be directing her services in coordination with Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A Rosary will be prayed at the church at 11AM to be followed by Mass at 12 noon. She will be laid down to rest beside her deceased husband Ramon (1980) and Son Hector Ruben (1976) at Sunset Cemetery in Willcox. Maria Eva was born in Campo Apache in a Family Ranch close to the town of Pilares de Teras, Sonora, Mexico. Pilares a small mining community where the family moved to be closer to their Parental and Maternal Families. She had fond memories of growing up in this close-knit family community. Eventually mining came to a stop still and they moved to the nearby town of Esqueda Sonora where she grew up. In Esqueda she met Ramon Ramirez and at the age of 20, she married 23-year-old Ramon. Ramon worked in Agua Prieta, a larger town which borders Douglas, Arizona. Here she gave birth to seven of her eight children. Ramon was part of the Bracero Program in the early 1950’s and was able to receive a green card to legally reside and work in the US, In1963 Maria Eva and her seven children were legally admitted into the US and took up residence in Kansas Settlement a farming community near Willcox Arizona. Here she had her last child and was Blessed to see them all grow up and graduate from Willcox High School. Since her arrival in Kansas Settlement, she developed a close relationship with all the community mothers. Whether working in the fields or social gatherings they all shared their wonderful and delicious cooking and baking abilities. Ramon and Maria Eva loved to dance, which was evident at any event with music playing. There was a strong bond in the community of comradery always willing to help each other in time of need. When gathered as a community there was always so much laughter and good-natured fun. Lifelong lasting relationships developed and are alive still to this day. In 1976 Son Hector Ruben was called to meet the Lord and then in 1980 her Husband Ramon was also called by the Lord. After a few years Maria Eva moved to Douglas to be closer to her grown children. The Holidays were always her favorite times, where most of the family would cram into her house and have so much fun, laughing and enjoying Nana’s delicious food, too much to mention. (Tamales, Menudo, Enchiladas, Avena, Empanadas, Bunuelos….). Many great memories were created in each of the houses she lived in, always filled with that special scent of freshly made tortillas or whatever she was cooking. She loved spending time with her children. She would visit them but in her terms that when she wanted to come home, they would have to bring her back. She had an adventurous sense that we never realized until after she turned 60. The first time ever on a plane was to visit her son in Hawaii, she flew making a transfer in LA Airport and we could not believe it, but she made it there and back safe and sound. She loved to go to church and pray at home, was dedicated to her faith until the end. In her last years she loved to go out and eat at her favorite El Centro Café where she would enjoy Chips and Salsa, Caldo de Queso, Menudo con Pata, and many other favorites. She loved all the special treatment and loving attention given to her; she will be greatly missed. Her parents were Jose Martinez Figueroa and Rita Elias Ortega both deceased. She was the second of ten children (Jose, Maria Eva, Ubaldo, Rafael, Francisco, Laislado, Carlota, Maria Eva is survived by six of her eight children, Luis Carlos, Francisco, Maria del Carmen, Guillermo, Maria Eva and Lorena (Deceased, Hector Ruben and Yolanda). She was Blessed with 26 Grandchildren, 46 Great Grandchildren and 6 Great-Great Grandchildren along with many, Cousins, Nephews, Nieces and Friends. Maria Eva will be greatly missed by all she met.
