Lucy M. Baca

Lucy Baca, 79, of Willcox, Arizona passed away peacefully with her son John by her side on October 12, 2025, at Via Elegante Assisted Living Facility in Tucson, AZ. A celebration of life service will take place at Westlawn Chapel and Mortuary on November 9, 2025, from 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. Born in Roswell, New Mexico on August 1, 1946, as Maria Luz Baca whom we all know as Lucy. She attended and graduated from Artesia High in Artesia, NM Home of the Bulldogs in 1966. She then worked at the Artesia Public Library until 1972, until Lucy moved to Willcox in that same year with Danny Catano. Lucy then spent over 50 years as a respected resident who was known for her dedication to the community. Lucy was very active volunteering with several notable organizations in Willcox, such as WASA, Willcox schools, Wings over Willcox, and Friends of the Library to name a few. Lucy enjoyed performing as Buffy the Clown, to spread joy and laughter. Lucy was a published poet, with poems published around the country. “Lucy was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Sostena Baca, brother Mike Baca and sisters Lupe Cadena and Corina Arnold also her son Robert Catano. Unfortunately, 2 days after her passing, she was joined by her baby brother Bobby Baca on 10/21/25. She is survived by her brothers Jerry Baca of Willcox and Raymond Baca of Las Cruces and sisters Mary Morton of Las Cruces and Cathy Griffin of Willcox. Lucy is survived by her Children Teresa Quinones, Refugio Catano and wife Elizabeth, John Catano and wife Marissa. She also is survived by nine grandchildren: Cassi, Brittney, Hannah, Emilio, Anthony, Damian, Gena, Malachi, Celeste, Dominic, 8 great grandchildren, and her beloved dog Yoda. Lucy will be remembered for her kindness, unwavering integrity, enduring friendship, love for her family and we can’t forget her love for the Dallas Cowboys. Her laughter and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew her. Lucy’s dedication to the community and school is well known. Lucy was awarded “Citizen of the Year” in 1999 she was also honored by the Governor of Arizona in 2005 for the Governor’s Art Award for her Special Education Art class contribution. She was always excited to participate in several local programs and traditions. Lucy was privileged to have decades long friendships with several residents in Willcox. Lucy will be greatly missed by all whom were fortunate enough to have known her. Rest in Peace
