Jose Estrada It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jose Estrada, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and cherished member of the community of Bowie, who left us peacefully at the age of 95. Jose passed away on December 11, 2024, surrounded by his family in San Diego, CA., leaving behind a legacy of hard work, kindness, and love. Born on September 23, 1929 in Durango, MX. Jose, AKA “Chepo” spent much of his life as a dedicated farmer and field laborer in AZ. He worked hard in the fields and often had crews working for various farmers in the small town of Bowie and San Simon, AZ. He raised most of his family in Bowie,AZ. His love for animals, mostly pigs, was equally profound, and many a friend and neighbor fondly remember his stories about his beloved animals and the joy they brought him. A man of great hospitality, Jose was known far and wide for his warmth and generosity. He took great pleasure in entertaining friends and family, especially when killing a pig, where his famous Chile Colorado recipe became a cherished tradition. Jose’s love for pigs brought people together, and his home was full of laughter, love, and the mouth-watering aroma of his chicharrónes. Above all, Jose was a devoted father to his eight children—His love and dedication to his family were unwavering, and he worked tirelessly to ensure they had everything they needed. His children and their families carry forward the values he instilled in them: hard work, kindness, and the importance of community and family. Throughout his long life, Jose was a pillar of strength, a man who was respected by all who knew him. He touched countless lives with his gentle spirit, his wisdom, and his steadfast commitment to those he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched and the stories that will be told for generations to come. Jose is survived by his eight children: Gavino Zapata; Tony (Maria Louisa) Estrada; Aurora (Lalo) Roman; Patricia (Gabriel) Maldonado; Rosa (Billy)Jurado: Gloria (Edward) Hernandez; and Paul Espinoza, Tony Davila and Gabriel Fernadez, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and a wide circle of friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Josie Ramirez, son Salvador Estrada and our mother Maria Louis Estrada.
