In Loving Memory of James “Jim” Royer Pearce, AZ – September 20, 1935, to February 6, 2024 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of beloved husband and father, James Richard Royer, who departed from this world on February 6, 2024, at the age of 88. After a short illness, he peacefully bid farewell to the life he lived with unwavering grace, love, and dignity. He leaves behind a legacy marked by compassion, resilience, and a profound commitment to his family. Born on September 20, 1935, in Jennings, LA to parents Louis and Marie Royer, he was the oldest of five children. Growing up, he loved working with horses and tinkering on cars. A devoted husband, father, and friend, Jim enriched the lives of those around him with his kindness and generosity. He was a man of integrity, whose values and principles served as a guiding light for his loved ones. His warm smile and gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of sharing in his company. Decorated veteran, Jim was proud of his time serving in the US Marine Corps and US Air Force. After he left military service, his professional life was spent employed by IBM, where he worked on the Gemini and Apollo projects in partnership with NASA in the 60’s. He retired from IBM in 1989 and dedicated the next several years to his grandchildren and his golf game. Friends and family will miss his jokes, infectious laughter and his whistling/singing to himself. He was also an accomplished handyman and mechanic, and his hands showed the wear of a man who could fix anything he touched. He is preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Marie; brother George; sisters Elaine and Helen, and his wife, Barbara. Jim is survived by his wife of 17 years, Donna; his brother Donald “Tanny” (Monique) Royer of Beaumont, TX; Children Vickie Purner of Yuma, AZ, Ben (Denise) Headen of Sierra Vista, AZ, Tanya (Mark) Emmert of Seattle, WA; 5 grandchildren (Ashley, Amber, Matthew, Melissa and Zachary); 5 great-grandchildren and 6 nieces and nephews. His family will forever cherish the memories created with Jim, holding on to the lessons of love, strength, and resilience that he bestowed upon them. In this time of grief, let us come together to celebrate the life of a remarkable man, remembering the joy he brought into our lives and the indelible mark he leaves on our hearts. A memorial service to honor and remember Jim will be held on April 20, 2024, at 11:00 at Wynne Chapel - 2057 N. 1st Lane, Cochise, AZ 85606. A private interment service for family will be held immediately following the celebration of life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the “Be the One” campaign of the American Legion, https://mylegion.org/PersonifyEbusiness/Donate, a cause that Jim held dear to his heart.
