Everett A. Bowland

Everett A Bowland was born July 14, 1939, to Edgar and Leatha Bowland in Wray, Colorado. He was the seventh and last child in the combined family. Edgar had a son, Lee, and daughter, Elaine, from a previous marriage and Leatha had a son. Floyd Ebby, and two daughters Claribel (Ginger) and Bonnie Ebby also from a previous marriage. Together they had a daughter Doris born in June 1938 and Everett. Everett spent his younger years in Wray attending school and accompanied his dad, who was a custom grain harvest combiner, in the summer. They traveled south to Oklahoma then went north to Kansas and Nebraska continuing all the way north to Montana. At the age of sixteen in 1956, he left home and moved with his friend Everett Collins to Jordan, Montana. They both worked at jobs on the weekend and attended high school. It was there that Everett met his future wife Sally (Sallene) Baker. She was also a student at the high school. They were both seniors. After graduating in 1957, Everett tried to enlist in the United States Army, but because of a knee injuryz he was not accepted. He decided to return to Colorado and got a job as a cashier at the First National Bank of Denver. May 29, 1958, he and Sallene Baker were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Billings, Montana, They lived in Denver until the spring of 1959 when they returned to Jordan, Montana to help her parents, Frank and Mary Baker, on their ranch. In July of 1959 their daughter Connie was born. Their son David was born in March of 1961 and another daughter, Anita, was born in December of 1964. Everett worked at various jobs while helping with the ranch work including butcher, water well drilling, County Extension Agent, and a deputy sheriff for Garfield County. Around 1969, Everett and Sallene decided to go to college at Montana State University in Bozeman, MT to become teachers. Everett was pursuing an Industrial Arts and Technology degree, He attended three years of school and then became a long-haul truck driver until Sallene earned her teaching degree and went to work as a teacher in Willow Creek, MT. He then returned to college and earned his degree. In 1974, they both got teaching jobs in Roy, MT and moved their family there. They stayed there until 1977 when they both got teaching jobs in Baker, MT. Everett taught there until the 1990’s when he retired due to ill health. Sallene retired in 2000 and they bought a travel trailer and traveled for many years. In 2005, they moved to Willcox, AZ where their daughter Anita lived and taught. They bought an acreage and lived there until Everett was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. They moved into Willcox in 2019 with their daughter Anita. Everett went to Safford, AZ in August of 2024 to live in a nursing home where he remained until his death February 8, 2026. He is survived by his wife Sallene, his daughter Connie (Shane) Kirschten of Alton, IA, his son Dave (Debbie) Bowland, his daughter Anita Bowland of Willcox, AZ, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and his two sisters Bonnie Flageole of Cabool, MO and Doris Scott of Valdosta, GA along with numerous nieces and nephews. At his request no services will be held.
